Drayton mine is an open cut coal mine located 13 kilometres south of Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter Valley in New South Wales. The mine, which is owned and operated by Anglo Coal Australia, began operating in 1983 and produces approximately 5 million tonnes per annum of thermal coal each year for both export and domestic markets. Drayton reserves are estimated at 35 million tonnes.

On its website, Anglo states that the company "obtained a mine extension approval in February 2008. This approval extends the mine’s life to 2017 and allows flexibility by increasing approved tonnage to 8 Mtpa. This approval requires the development of various management plans and commissioning of new infrastructure."

Anglo Coal Australia is currently undertaking a feasibility study on the development of the Drayton South mine as a replacement for the Drayton mine.
