Ghogarpalli Ultra Mega Power Project is a proposed 4000 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in Odisha, India.

Background

In 2012, the Indian Ministry of Power called on the country's Coal Ministry to allocate the Ghogarpalli and Dipside of Ghogarpalli coal blocks to Ghogarpalli Integrated Power Company Limited, a special-purpose vehicle floated by the state-run Power Finance Corporation or the execution of the 4,000-megawatt, pit-head power project in the state.[1]

In July 2014 it was reported that the Odisha government had identified land for the proposed power station at the Narlas-Kasinga sub division of Kalahandi district, with coal supplied by Ghogarpalli and Dipside of Ghogarpalli coal blocks. The Odisha government said it was seeking the coal ministry's approval for the blocks, after which the projects would be put up for bidding.[2]

In July 2015 the Union power ministry said it would soon invite fresh bids for the Sundargarh Ultra Mega Power Project in Odisha, and that proposals for UMPPs at Bijoypatana in Bhadrak district (Sundargarh Ultra Mega Power Project) and Narla in Kalahandi district had been shelved.[3]
