Gummidipoondi Accord power station is a proposed 360-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in Tamil Nadu, India.

Location

The undated satellite photo below shows where the power station would be built near Sirupulalpettai village, according to the coordinates shown in the environmental clearance. The project site is slightly to the east of the ARS Metals facility, which also has a captive power plant that is slated for expansion.

Background on Plant

Accord Energy received environmental clearance for a 300 MW coal plant in 2011. The coal source is proposed to be imported coal from Indonesia, but may be changed to domestic coal at a later stage. According to the first project EIA there would be no resettlements for the power station.

Another EIA was submitted in October 2014 to increase the capacity of the plant from 300 MW to 360 MW.

As of December 2018, with no progress in over four years, the project appears to be on hold or cancelled.
