Background

The plant's original coal-fired, 135 MW Unit 1 went online in August 2000.[1] In June 2013 the plant's owner, Enersur, added three diesel-fueled cold reserve units at the Ilo facility, with a total capacity of 460 MW, expandable to 560 MW.[2] A proposed 135 MW coal-fired Unit 2 for the Ilo 2 plant was still listed in Platts' World Electric Power Plants Database as of June 2015[3] but appears to have been abandoned since it is not included in Enersur's plans or in recent coverage of Peruvian operations on the website of Enersur's parent company Engie.[4]

Planned Retirement

In December 2019 Engie announced that the plant would close by 2022.[5]
