Karaikal Port power station is a proposed 1,980-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station in Puducherry, India.

Background on Plant

In 2010 it was reported that Neyveli Lignite Corporation wanted to put up a 1,980 MW (3 units of 660 MW each) power plant near the port city of Karaikal, but also stressed that the plan was at a “very preliminary stage”.

However, as of 2014 there have been no permits or applications for the project listed on the India MoEF website, and no mention of the project on the company website, and was likely cancelled.
