Background

The port handles metallurgical and thermal coal, potash, grains, animal feed, bulk fertilizers, and canola oil.[2]

Coal is handled at the terminal through separate handling facilities. Neptune exported 8.1 million tonnes of coking coal in 2013. Neptune plans to expand annual capacity from 12.5 to 18.5 million tonnes, following a project permit issued by Port Metro Vancouver in January 2013.[3] The expansion work, known as the Allison project, consists of a new railcar dumper building and conveyor system, a new shiploader at Berth 1, and an additional rail alignment.[4]
