The Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) is a deep-sea geological research program "into the history of the ocean basins and the overall nature of the crust beneath the ocean floor." [1]
The program is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and 22 international partners and uses the specialist drilling ship, the JOIDES Resolution. The project is overseen by Joint Oceanographic Institutions, Inc. (JOI), a group of 18 U.S. institutions while the scioentific program is managed by the College of Geosciences at Texas A&M University.
