Background

Tunas Enerji Elektrik Uretim A.Ş. has received a license for a 100 MW coal plant at Ceyhan.

The license is separate from that received for the 100 MW Hakan Enerji power station in Ceyhan, proposed by Hakan Enerji, which applied for environmental licensing in August 2010. After Hakan received a license for the project, the license was challenged by a lawsuit. Hakan subsidiary Tunas Enerji Elektrik Uretim AS then sought and received a separate license for the 100 MW coal-fired power station at the same site. As of May 2016, it appears the Tunas proposal is moving forward and Hakan Enerji has been cancelled.

According to the Turkey Energy Market Regulatory Authority website (December 2017), the power station's operating license was cancelled. As of December 2019 there has been no progress on the project in more than four years, and it appears to be cancelled.
