Location

Background on Plant
Hema Elektrik, a subsidiary of Hattat Holding, is currently planning to build a 150-MW, mine-to-mouth coal-fired power plant near the company's Kandilli underground coal mine in northern Zonguldak province.[1][2] The application for the plant's environmental permits was filed in October 2012; the company currently has until May 2014 to submit additional parts of its environmental permit application.[3]
Opposition
Local elected officials and residents have been trying to stop the proposed plant, along with the nearby 1,300-MW Kireclik Thermal Power Plant. A public hearing held in October 2010 was especially contentious.[4][5]
