Civil Justice Task Force

Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development Task Force

State Farm is also in the banking business with State Farm Bank offering financial products through State Farm agents, according to its Hoovers profile. It had a net income in 2010 of $1.8 billion, up from $777 million in 2009. Its CEO, Ed Rust, made $10.2 million in the same year. Open Secrets' latest information about State Farm is from 2008. That year, State Farm gave a combined total of $4.1 million in federal and state political contributions.

The company started its first schools in 2001, and in 2004, Connections Academy was sold to Apollo Management, L.P. Apollo Management "has some $68 billion of assets under management, spread among its private equity, capital markets, and real estate segments. It specializes in buying distressed businesses and turning them around and has had some of its biggest successes investing during economic downturns," according to its Hoovers profile.

The American Gas Association is a coalition that represents natural gas-- or "fracking"-- companies. The AGA PAC spent a total of $435,142 in political contributions in 2010.

International Relations Task Force

It is the third largest tobacco company in the United States and, as part of the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement, paid approximately $1.45 billion to the participating states over five years due to the cancer, deaths and other adverse health consequences of smoking tobacco. In 2010, R.J. Reynolds had Net Sales of $8.6 billion and a Net Income of $1.1 billion. Its former CEO, Susan M. Ivey, made $6.2 million the same year (effective March 1, 2011, Daniel Delen is the CEO). In 2010, Reynolds American gave a total of $430,820 to politicians: $397,800 to Republicans and $33,000 to Democrats.

Rumenap, the President of the organization, previously "served as the Deputy Director for the American Conservative Union (ACU), the nation's oldest and largest conservative grassroots issue-advocacy organization, where she directed the ACU's annual Conservative Political Action Conference and served as one of the group's principle lobbyists. • Co-Chair: Bartlett Cleland (Director, IPI Center for Technology Freedom, Institute for Policy Innovation), registered lobbyist for the Technology Association of America, previously a registered lobbyist for the Information Technology Association of America and Americans for Tax Reform, Private Sector Chair. The Institute for Policy Innovation is a Texas-based think tank founded by Dick Armey that Politico describes as "known for its economic analysis of pending and proposed changes in tax policy, with its emphasis on free markets, limited government, supply-side economics and dynamic scoring. IPI focuses on issues of taxation, technology, education reform, and government regulation." The Center for Technology Freedom was created when Bartlett Cleland joined IPI. On its website, IPI states that it is funded "wholly by contributions from individuals, businesses and other non-profit foundations."
