Location
The map below shows the location of Çakmaklı village, the approximate location where the plant would be built in Aliağa district, İzmir province.
Background on Plant
Meles Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. has applied for a license to build a 1,320 MW coal plant at Çakmaklı village.[1]
The proposal is at the same location as the Aliağa Enka power station, which was abandoned after a sustained public opposition campaign.[2][3][4]
As of December 2017 the project is no longer on the Turkey Energy Market Regulatory Authority website, meaning it is not seeking a generation license, nor a list of pending EIAs. The project appears to be shelved.[5]
