Background on Plant

Meles Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. has applied for a license to build a 1,320 MW coal plant at Çakmaklı village.

The proposal is at the same location as the Aliağa Enka power station, which was abandoned after a sustained public opposition campaign.

As of December 2017 the project is no longer on the Turkey Energy Market Regulatory Authority website, meaning it is not seeking a generation license, nor a list of pending EIAs. The project appears to be shelved.
