The map below shows the location of Karaburun cape, the approximate location where the plant would apparently be built in Biga district, Çanakkale province.
Background on Plant
Sarıkaya Enerji, then a subsidiary of Doğan Holding, applied in May 2010 to build the Karaburun-1 135-MW coal-fired power plant in Çanakkale province.[1] In June 2011, Sarıkaya applied to build a second 660-MW coal-fired unit (Karaburun-2) on the site.[2] In March 2013, the project's initial environmental permit application was approved.[3]
In March 2014, Sarıkaya applied to expand the plant's capacity further[4][5] and the project was licensed in 2015 as 2 x 660 MW.[6]
Sarıkaya Enerji now belongs to Yıldırım Group.[7]
