Background on Plant

In September 2013, Nurol Enerji began the environmental permitting process to build a two-unit, 1,600-MW, $1.6 billion coal-fired power plant in Turkey's Balıkesir province.[1][2][3]

Nurol Enerji Üretim ve Pazarlama A.Ş. shelved the proposed project in 2015. The plant is now being pursued by Bahçepınar Enerji Üretim ve İnşaat A.Ş., starting the permitting process over.[4]

However, the EIA process was cancelled in January 2016.[5]
