Carbon Capture and Storage demonstration projects worldwide

Details of active Carbon Capture and Storage demonstration projects worldwide have been collated by by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum and the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute.

Projects

In June 2010 the IEA published a list of what it described as 80 "large scale, fully integrated CCS projects". (Note that the names used by the IEA are often not the names of the projects used by the proponents themselves. Wherever it has been possible to determine, the names below are those used by the project proponents). These projects are:

• the Coolimba Power Station in Australia;
• the Janschwalde power station in Germany;
• the Immingham power station in England;
• the North Bohemia Clean Coal Project in the Czech Republic;
• the Barendrecht Shell CCS Project in the Netherlands;
• the Eemshaven Power Station in the Netherlands;
• the Rotterdam Capture Storage and Demonstration Project in the Netherlands;
• the Belchatow CCS Project in Poland;
• the Chemical Plant CCS Project, Yulin in China;
• the Wandoan Power Project in Australia;
• the Dongguan Taiyangzhou IGCC with CO2 Capture Project in China;
• the Lianyungang IGCC with CO2 Capture Project in China;
• the Lake Charles Gasification Plant in the United States;
• the Air Products Project in the United States;
• the CEMEX CO2 Plant in the United States;
• the Northern California CO2 Reduction Project in the United States;
• the Mississippi Gasification SNG in the United States;
• the Battelle Memorial Institute Carbon Capture and Storage Project in the United States;
• the University of Utah CCS Project in the United States;
• the Victorian CarbonNet CCS Project in Australia;
• the Collie South West Hub project in Australia;
• the Integrated Project Carbon Mine Sulcis in Italy;
• the Rotterdam CCS Network – Independent Storage Assessment in the Netherlands;
• the Korea-CCS2 Project in the Republic of Korea;
• the Spectra Fort Nelson CCS Project in Canada;
• the Tenaska Trailblazer Energy Center in the United States;
• the Antelope Valley Station in the United States;
• the FutureGen Clean Coal Project in the United States;
• the AEP Mountaineer in the United States;
• the Mongstad in Norway;
• the Bow City Power Plant CO2 Capture in Canada;
• the RWE Goldenbergwerk IGCC power station Hurth, Germany;
• the Faustina Hydrogen Products Petroleum Coke Gasification Project, St. James Parish, Louisiana in the United States;
• the Indiana Gasification Project in the United States;
• the Lockwood Gasification Plant in the United States;
• the Pioneer Project in Canada;
• the GreenGen IGCC Project in China;
• the ZeroGen project in Australia;
• the "Southern California Edison IGCC Project" in the United States listed by the IEA appears to be a double counting of the Hydrogen Energy California project (see below); In December 2009 Southern California Edison was given approval by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to "co-fund feasibility studies of a California integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant with carbon capture and storage". The CPUC decision specifically related to the Hydrogen Energy California project.

• the Summit Texas Clean Energy CCS Project in the United States;

• the Coffeyville Resources Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant in the United States.
